Facebook isn't your friend!
If you're running a small or start up business you won't necessarily have a massive budget to spend on your social media marketing, so you need to find clever ways to reach your customers and potential customers that don't add to your marketing costs, but do generate sales!
The bad news is that Facebook wants you to pay for the privilege of reaching their customers! They are a business, after all and should be paid for their services.
The good news is that your own customers can help you, doing your marketing for you, without it being a pain in the rear for them, or violating Facebook's Terms & Conditions, which puts your business page at risk of being permanently closed down by Facebook!
Find out who YOUR core supporters are!
If you're already in business, you'll have customers who love your product, if you're not yet in business, you'll have people who love you!
These are the people you can ask to help you spread the word about the awesomeness of your product, and all it takes is 30 seconds of their time!
Think about who your "core supporters" are, maybe they're your oldest friends and family, your first customers, parents of your children's friends, other business owners you met at business networking events, maybe you even have investors.
Write down who the people are in your life who want to be supportive of your business venture. These are your "core supporters". They will be your friend when Facebook won't!
Ask for help from your friends, they'll want to help you!
Once you've identified who your core supporters are, start reaching out to them and let them know how they can support you!
It's not quite asking them a favour, because these are people who you know would like to support you, so give them the opportunity, help them to help you!
The content posted on your facebook page should always be focused on adding value to your customers, or people who are potential customers, so when they like it they should get access to useful interesting content.
The text below is an example of giving your customers the opportunity to support you!

Step by Step Guide to get your Core Supporters to Like Your Facebook Business Page
Ask them if they would be so kind as to "Like" your business Facebook page, send them the link (don't expect people to go to the extra effort of searching for it- make it easy for them to support you!).
2: Ask Core Supporters to Receive Notifications When Your Business Posts To Facebook
Ask them to change their settings for the page so that they receive notifications when your page publishes a post.
This photo shows where they can find these settings! Click where the arrow points and it will reveal a drop down box shown below:
They will then see the choices they have as to how they want to see posts from your page.
The second option is whether they would like to have notifications of your posts or not. The default setting for this is off.
But once your customers click "All on", they will begin receiving notifications when you post on your business page.
From here, you can ask your core supporters if they would be so kind to "like" (or even share!) each of your posts when they receive a notification.
And, if possible commenting on the posts, which is brilliant for increasing engagement from your other fans!
Now you should see an increase in engagement to your Facebook page, not just from your core supporters who are now liking your posts more often, but also because of the impact of their engagement.
Each time they like one of your posts, it shows on the "ticker" (right hand side of Fb to all of their friends). Plus, Facebook has a clever algorithm which helps them determine whether or not your post is interesting or not. If this algorithm calculates that the post is not interesting, (because it hasn't gotten much engagement to the 20% of page fans it has shown the post to), then it will not show your post to any more of your fans!
If the algorithm sees that the post has received interaction, then it is more likely to show the post to more people.
Your posts will reach more of your potential customers, because of the interactions from your core supporters.
This is a win-win for both of you. Your business benefits from the interaction, and your customers have an easy way to see your updates and keep up with the awesomeness you provide!
