Claire Boyles (founder of Success Matters) is the host of the local Business Buzz networking in St Albans.
Business Buzz is a monthly drop in networking event for local businesses, the St Albans Buzz is at The Beech House on St Peter's Street (the main street in St Albans City Centre).
Business Buzz St Albans is always on the third Thursday of the month, so it's worth putting into your calendar/diary so that you remember to come whenever you are able. We find that regular attendees get to develop deeper relationships, which helps build trust so that people are more willing to recommend and refer their contacts to you and your business.
There are nearly 30 different Business Buzz networking events around Hertfordshire,
Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Surrey, Essex and Business Buzz London!
All the Business Buzz events work in the same way, they are monthly morning events 10am-12 noon, no booking is needed, just pay £5 as you arrive.
Each Buzz has a host, and ambassadors which ensure the smooth running of the buzz networking events. Business Buzz is a well established, award winning brand and attracts a variety of different business types and sizes.

When meeting someone for the first time at a networking event, don't shove your business card into their hand at the first opportunity! Yes, this does happens, and when people do this is it creates the impression that the person is only interested in what you can do for their business. Most people don't respond positively to this approach.
A better approach, (which is more likely to build long term positive business relationships with people who can refer & recommend you to their network) is to have a normal conversation with them! Ask them about their business, show an interest in them, and only give them your business card if they ask for it. This way you're not wasting your business cards on people who are not interested in what you are selling, and you don't create a negative first impression.
Each Business Buzz has opportunities for local businesses to become sponsors, giving them higher prominence at the Buzz events.
The St Albans Business Buzz sponsor is STANTA (St Albans Enterprise Agency), it provides free consultancy and training to any business younger than 3.5 years. There are lots of useful training workshops that they put on regularly, these are also open to all businesses at very reasonable rates.
